Simulation Application-Healthcare for the poor
•Partnership of Immunization Providers (PIP)  used three steps to create simulation to improve clinic performance
1.Create Workflow data acquisition tool
2.Break data into functional relationships
3.Create simulation model of ideal operation
4.
•Input is made simple for the staff

University of California San Diego with community clinics used simulation to optimize operations at a local health clinic serving the poor.  The clientele are of little means and the doctors who serve the clinic are more concerned with the welfare of the patients than to make themselves rich.  The clinics are usually run out of donated space in churches or motels.  (Alexopoulos, 2001)

To make each dollar count, the PIP used Industrial Engineering concepts to gather data on the operation.  This data was analyzed and broken into functional relationships.  The Arean simulation language was used to model these relationships.  There are five pieces to the model.

Critical input variables include number of patients in the system, number of providers, average time for each immunization.

Design of the interface is made as simple as possible as the staff is not highly computer literate.
