Despite the fact
that the pilots were highly satisfied with the design of the simulator in
many areas, some areas were lower in satisfaction than real flight.
The images that were
projected on the forty foot dome were not as sharp and clear as the view in
the sky.
Formation variations
and realism was limited as the projections were at a fixed distance away from
the cockpit.
The clarity of the
image hindered identification of the aircraft.
Mutual support to
attack bogies was not as realistic as combat situations.
The biggest
influence on the overall satisfaction was the software version of the
radar. The simulator used an older
version than the one in the F-15. This
changed tactics on occasion.
