(Duncombe, 1997) The NMT is tied into seven subsystems, six of which are currently operational and one, Battlefield Spectrum Management, is planned as a future enhancement.  These subsystems are:
.COTS/Utility software – commercial software, such as e-Mail, word processing, and spreadsheets are used to supplement custom NMT functions.
.System Administration – provides control over the network, communications, and data systems.
.Soldier/Machine Interface – provides graphical maps and evaluation of terrain.
.WAN Management – provide simulation WAN plan activation, network configuration and monitoring, and WAN messaging.
.Battlefield Spectrum Management – future enhancement to provide radio frequency allocation and assignment, threat analysis, and data entry.
.Network Planning and Engineering – Access and maintain plan database, change plan defaults.
.Application Executive – provide menus, data downloads, user access, messaging windows.
