(Duncombe, 1997) The
NMT is tied into seven subsystems, six of which are currently operational and
one, Battlefield Spectrum Management, is planned as a future
enhancement. These subsystems are:
1.COTS/Utility software – commercial software, such as
e-Mail, word processing, and spreadsheets are used to supplement custom NMT
functions.
2.System Administration – provides control over the network,
communications, and data systems.
3.Soldier/Machine Interface – provides graphical maps and
evaluation of terrain.
4.WAN Management – provide simulation WAN plan activation,
network configuration and monitoring, and WAN messaging.
5.Battlefield Spectrum Management – future enhancement to
provide radio frequency allocation and assignment, threat analysis, and data
entry.
6.Network Planning and Engineering – Access and maintain plan
database, change plan defaults.
7.Application Executive – provide menus, data downloads, user
access, messaging windows.
