Verifying the model
is a process of comparing the actual patient flow with the on-screen patient
flow. The various documents (flow charts, arrival rates, etc) should be
combined with records of the various team meetings to form an “assumption
document”.
Validation involves
testing the model to ensure that the actual system length of stay times are
mirrored by the simulation model. This particular case model was particularly
difficult to validate. Any patient type with significant admission rate would
not validate.
Final three stages
are related to setting up alternatives, run each alternative, evaluate each
alternative and choose the one(s) that best suit the initial goal.
Successful
simulation studies are dependent on the cooperation of each department that
is affected by the study and that affects the objective of the study.
