Notes:
Welcome to the Year 2000 crisis, a crisis that will affect virtually every area of your life. Computer systems throughout the world that use 2 digit years as dates may not work. Two time spans illustrate this: 99-98 = 1 year, 00-99 = -99 years. How can this affect you?
You wake up late on Sat. Jan. 1, 2000 because your alarm clock didn’t work. You’re thirsty so you walk down the hall for some water. No water comes out of the faucet. You walk downstairs to get some water from the refrigerator. There’s no light. You turn on the wall switch and that light doesn’t work either. You try to call your neighbor to see how big the problem is, but there’s no phone service.
You run out to your car. The car won’t start because the maintenance system has shut it down. You have no money so you walk to the bank. The bank doesn’t have a record of you or your account. It keeps your ATM card. You’re hungry with no money, so you beg for some food at the store. The doors on the store can’t open due to the security system. You look inside. There is no food in the store. It couldn’t get to market. It’s quiet outside, no planes, no trains, no automobiles. Where are you going to be?
