August 31, 1998 SCANALYZER YEAR 2000 SOLUTION VERSION 2.50 IMPROVES Y2K PROJECT TECHNOLOGY Lyndhurst, NJ: Arthur Hendela, president of Hendela System Consultants, Inc., has announced the release of the SCANALYZER YEAR 2000 SOLUTION VERSION 2.5 software. The software upgrade features a new type of scanning process capable of more in-depth analysis of Year 2000 problems. The new spreadsheet and text export features allows Y2K project managers to show progress and costs in greater detail and send those results via email attachments. "These changes are an important advance for users of the SCANALYZER software," said Hendela. "The new Exclusion Scan, Result Export, and Clipper/Dbase index analysis are big time savers in the race for the Year 2000," Hendela added. SCANALYZER customers received software upgrades to version 2.5 specific to their operating systems. "With the release of version 2.5, Hendela System Consultants has now made 50 enhancements to the program since its debut in June 1997," said Hendela. The software, which is being used worldwide, addresses the Year 2000 problem which continues to grow in scope. "We have heard from users of the SCANALYZER software how important it is to take more control of the Year 2000 problem," said Hendela. "There are countless instances in which the Year 2000 problem surfaces. SCANALYZER 2.5 provides a cost effective way to correct these problems and more easily communicate the results," Hendela added. The historical significance of the Year 2000 dates back to the 1970's when computers started being used commercially. Software developers made an economic decision to use only the last two digits of the year. For instance, the year 1971 became "71". They saved money and memory space which was at a premium rate. All companies must update their computer programs to recognize the Year 2000 before the end of the century. If they do not, programs such as billing, scheduling, and maintenance will become inoperable. This inoperable condition is brought about by the computers interpreting the two digit "00" as 1900 instead of 2000. "The year 2000 problem is more widespread than most people think, and time is running out," said Hendela. "The problem doesn't just exist on large mainframe systems. Mid-sized and small computer systems also have the problem," he added. The SCANALYZER 2.5 software is made to help find the problems regardless of the size of the company or program, Hendela said. The software identifies the computer program code which may need to be updated. The program is for use by all mainframe, LAN, and workstation environments which can export text files to Windows 3.1x /95 PCs or Windows NT Workstations. It is compatible with all text based programming languages such as Nomad, Foxpro, Clipper, Dbase, and C. The program is straightforward in its finding of Year 2000 problems. With the most recent improvements, companies can quickly locate and correct the most critical Year 2000 compliance issues, according to David Pan, a leading consultant in the development of the SCANALYZER 2.5 software. "This program frees up valuable resources, provides a quick search method to see where the problems lie, and speeds up the project communications process," said Jeff Miller, another member of the SCANALYZER team.
